Virtually no aid is entering Gaza and supplies are dwindling. Self-sufficient food systems have (long) been decimated. One year after the first community bake sale, one year after the start of a conflict which has affected millions of people, we gather again in solidarity to raise money for the people of Gaza. We will bring a part of ourselves, a part of our traditions, a part of our heritage to the table where we can exchange our time and energy to something greater than individual ingredients or individual actions. We use baking to care for those around us. We use it to create care for those far away. We see baking as a humble act of resistance when our actions can often feel futile. All money raised during the bake sale will go directly to Thamra, a Palestinian food sovereignty organization working to build self-sufficient food systems in Gaza. A setting in which individual and the collective experiences and sensations converge. In conjunction with the (erratic) changing of the seasons, we will celebrate (and grieve) the return (or absence) of blooms this spring. As the exponential effects of climate change interfere with plant reproduction cycles, we will use the tools of taste and language to unravel the metaphor of spring at a time of increased uncertainty and awareness within our food system. We propose that the sensations of eating as one pathway towards greater awareness in the climate crisis: the practice of eating in community can heighten our perception of taste and therefore our experience of the food available to us. Taste perception is a complex biological, psychological, and sociological process. humans have the ability to imagine taste seperate from the physiological experience by speaking, listening, writing and reading about food. Furthermore, the language we use to describe food alters our perception of taste. We will therefore explore the synergies of language and taste in the setting of the meal. The evening will be a meal in five chapters where eaters will be welcomed to explore the words, ingredients, and sensations which mark the peak bloom of spring, and the result of the promised potential after winter’s long cold depths. We will explore, too, how the language of eating may be a tool in uncovering our subconscious understandings of what food should be and the role of individual and collective taste in mitigating the impacts of eating on our planet. after a brunch of homemade sourdough, farmstand jams, and found fruits, we will head out for our first foraging walk through beachy south side of the island. here we will look for wild apples, and other plants common to the unique natural landscape of bornholm. we will head back home for lunch and a nap before our evening hunt for mushrooms through the mossy forest.&nbsp; we will end the evenign cooking together a communal meal of the ingredients found throughout the day, before repeating it again the next day. cost: 2500dkk including 2 night accomodation in a shared room, transportaiton on the island, and full board. &nbsp;
